Evaluations

Teams are drafted based on an evaluation process. Evaluators assess each player’s current skill level, including layups, shooting, dribbling, agility, and quickness.

ALL PLAYERS MAKE A TEAM REGARDLESS OF EVALUATION RESULTS.

IMPORTANT: These evaluations are not tryouts. They are used only to help create balanced teams.

Team Selection

Team placement considers player availability, evaluation results, and other activities.

The RCBA does everything possible to balance skill levels across teams.

  • The RCBA does not accept zone requests
  • This is a city-wide program, and players may be assigned to any practice facility

NEW Pooling System

Grade 5 & 6 will be combined and divided into competitive pools due to varying skill levels.

  • Evaluation results are used to form balanced Pool 1 and Pool 2 teams
  • A set number of players automatically qualify for Pool 1
  • A small group may be invited to Bubble Evaluations to determine remaining Pool 1 spots
  • Pool sizes may vary each year based on registration numbers and skill distribution
  • Grade 5 & 6 girls may be combined and pooled depending on registration numbers

Games

  • Games are played Friday evenings or Saturdays
  • Format: 5-on-5
  • Game length: 75 minutes
  • Zone defense is not allowed
  • Pressing rules may be reviewed mid-season
  • Focus is on developing fundamental offensive and defensive skills

Scoring

Scores are kept and displayed. If the score differential exceeds 25 points, coaches may choose to stop displaying the score.

On the RCBA website, scores are only recorded up to a 25-point differential to discourage running up the score.

Playoffs

All teams qualify for playoffs and are guaranteed a minimum of 2 games.

Playoff brackets are posted, and matchups are based on final regular-season standings.
